Styling Party Pieces After Party Season Ends!

Styling Party Wear For Casual Wear

Party season is almost here, folks, and with it comes all the highs and lows of choosing just the right outfit for every event… or making very, very sure that the same people aren’t going to be at more than one party if you want to wear the same thing twice. I’m a big advocate for wearing the same thing over and over again, especially if it’s an outfit you feel great in; but I know not everyone is keen on being as much of an outfit repeater as me.

With that in mind I’m hoping that I can show how you can still get plenty of wear out of your new party dresses, skirts, etc. long after party season is over by styling some of my own 2018 christmas season party wear in a more casual way. You don’t have to give up all the lovely christmas and new year occasion wear you spent so long choosing (and good £££ on), because with a little bit of layering magic, they become day wear!

First up is this colour block, twist front midi dress [affiliate link / gifted] from BooHoo Plus that I have lined up to wear in the week before christmas. Styled up by itself, as a going out dress, this is a glam and easy to wear slinky midi that serves as a great foundation to some serious accessorising.

This particular design is a perfect choice for party season, it’s a comfortable and roomy dress that doesn’t compromise on style. Luckily, statement party dresses like this are so easy to restyle and wear more casually simply by layering them up.

I opted for a rust coloured roll neck [affiliate link] from New Look for this outfit, mainly because I specifically wanted a rich, autumnal colour to offset the monochrome black and white dress, plus it meant that the leopard belt fit right in too.

For the finishing touches, I added a couple of old faithfuls: a faux leather jacket by Missguided Plus from a few seasons ago (similar here [affiliate link]) and my trusty Vans.

DRESS FIT & SPECIFICS: There is no give or stretch in the material, but I went for my usual size and it fits like a glove. The top section is oversized and roomy, with drop sleeves in a kimono style, and a twist knot detail at the bottom of the plunge neck.

It fastens with a concealed zip right up the back (pictured below) and has the two tone colour block on both the front and the back which I love!

It’s a great length, falling below the knee on me, and the skirt of the dress is cut into a pencil style which isn’t too tight so it’s easy to sit down in without the material pulling or feeling restrictive.

How To Keep Wearing Your Favourite Party Pieces When Party Season Is Over

I’ve found one of the most difficult things to take from night to day happens to be my favourite kind; the more glitzy and sparkly elements of party season wear. So I decided to style this beautiful glitter pleated midi skirt [gifted] from Unique21‘s Hero range next to prove to myself it can be done.

After browsing Pinterest for some inspiration, I fell in love with street style snaps of fashionable people wearing long oversized jumpers with their pleated midis, and hoped to make the look work for my plus size body. I had the perfect piece hanging the wardrobe, this roll neck jumper dress [affiliate link] from ASOS’s Collusion range, and I like how laid back it instantly made the skirt feel.

However, if you aren’t a fan of the long jumper dress with the skirt, a shorter but still oversized block colour pull-over worn tucked in to a flamboyant midi skirt looks really nice too.

SKIRT FIT & SPECIFICS: This skirt doesn’t contain any stretch, but has a wide elasticated waistband which I found made it easy to pull on over my hips with about half an inch to spare. I went with my usual size, if you are between sizes I’d recommend sizing up once.

The glitter, rainbow, micro pleats give a lovely weight and movement to the midi. It is also super sparkly, and whilst it looks beautiful by candle light in the evenings, it also picks up the light in the day time with a lovely glimmer.

So with a bit of layering, and some casual styling, you don’t have to put away your favourite party dress or sparkly skirt when the christmas and new year period is over.
