Introducing Deep Breaths Collective

Deep Breaths Collective Weirdos Forever Tee
Deep Breaths Collective Feelings

I know we’re knocking on Autumn’s door right now, but I’m still a bit sore about having spent the whole summer with a severe lack of good tees in my wardrobe. I’ve been looking for months, but the design of plus size tees across the board tends to be so hit and miss. This is where my wonderfully talented friend Teri, of Deep Breaths Collective, comes in because when she very kindly sent a couple of pieces from her new collection my way I couldn’t have been more pleased and couldn’t wait to style them.

I’ll be honest, I’m most excited to bring you this post because it’s not every day that I have the pleasure of introducing you to a brand new venture by one of my close friends! Deep Breaths Collective is all Teri; her vision, her designs, her energy and style are what makes it great.

All of the tees, jumpers and totes are hand screened in Bristol, and best of all they’re plus size friendly. Every item ranges from a size S to 2XL, with exact chest measurements for each listed on the product page, and the sizing is super generous. The very excellent Phased & Confused sweater in particular ranges up to the equivalent of a UK28.

So lets talk about the pieces I was lucky enough to get my hands on! First up is this superbly 90’s ‘Weirdos Forever’ ringer tee [gifted], I’m wearing a size L in this style, which is the equivalent of a UK16-18 and even though I’m a UK18 the fit is still pretty roomy on me. The arms fit closely, but aren’t tight, and I’ve found that the the same goes for the neck.

The material is nice and thick, so this tee is going to be perfect for some spooky autumn layering, but it also means that the screen printed design on the front doesn’t distort across across my boobs and stays completely legible.

I wanted to give this look a bit of ‘skiving off school to get that New Radicals single from Our Price in town in 1998’ realness, so I wore the tee tucked in to my Simply Be high waisters [affiliate link]. Admittedly some bleach wash straight leg jeans would have been infinitely better, but I’m yet to find my perfect pair. I teamed my skinnies with a matching burgundy belt [affiliate link] and DM’s. I’ve had these Dr. Marten’s for YEARS and whilst I love them, I’m also haunted by the memory of breaking in my other pairs so I haven’t worn them as much as I’d like.

The second piece is this versatile lilac on grey long sleeved tee [gifted], which is hot off the press as it launches today! I fancied dressing this tee up, so figured I’d try it with one of my favourite wardrobe staples of the moment, a basic black jersey tube skirt [gifted] then add some comfy slip on flats and LOADS of gold costume jewellery! I love this outfit, and can quite honestly see variations of it becoming a bit of a uniform for me this season as it’s not only comfortable but can take me from day to evening to night with very little fuss.

The fit of this tee is even more generous than the first one; I’m wearing a size L, which in this style is the equivalent of a UK18-20 I’d say it feels pretty spot on. The arms are roomy, and although I have them rolled up here they are perfectly long enough too. The material is thinner than the black ringer tee, but it’s so incredibly soft and again the design doesn’t stretch and distort across the chest too much at all.

To sum up: if you’re looking for fun, colourful and thoughtful designs on good quality apparel from an indie brand run by a genuinely good egg then check out Deep Breaths Collective. More and more items from the new collection are being added to the online store in the coming weeks, but some of my faves are already available – including the gorgeous Personal Best collab t-shirt and the bestselling Phased & Confused sweater I mentioned at the top of this post.

Oh, and if you find yourself in Cardiff city centre at any point between now and mid-October, get yourself down to Topshop where you can find a Deep Breaths Collective pop up concession which contains the full collection available to touch, feel, and try on in person.
